Wine&Dine

Tonight I had the pleasure of dining with one of my lovely friends, Cat. Our original plan was to meet at a local Italian restaurant that makes the most delicious fresh pasta that you are able to enjoy on their outdoor garden patio... but as luck would have it, Monday is the only day they are shut. So, we hopped on a bus and headed downtown. I wasn't able to see her over the weekend so she treated me to dinner and wine at Sauce restaurant as a belated birthday celebration.
I finally found the opportunity to wear my new Ralph Lauren wedges that I picked up awhile ago! We have limited storage at our place. Our shoe rack is completely buried at home. I'll admit it. I had to do some serious negotiating with my boyfriend to get another pair of shoes. We came to the agreement that I had to throw away two pairs of shoes if I wanted to get these new ones. I didn't want to part with any of them but it was worth it. I've been looking everywhere for a simple pair of summer wedges. You'll be seeing these babies in many posts to come! xx

Sun by the Sea

My favorite way to spend a Sunday is to fix a delicious breakfast of fresh fruit and yogurt, then head to the sea to soak up some much needed Vitamin D. I feel fortunate to live in Victoria where I am surrounded by quaint little seaside villages. There is nothing that can clear your mind quite like taking a deep breath of fresh ocean air. Coffee in hand, I wandered through the streets looking in all of the specialty shops. It was lovely to see everyone outside enjoying the sun!

Before I left the house this morning, I sewed the pink shorts I was wearing. I've only been sewing for a few months and it's very rewarding to be able to wear something I've sewn! I picked up the fabric from the discount bin for $2/meter. I only used about half of it, so these shorts cost me a whopping $1 to make! They were incredibly simple to sew and I will be putting up a DIY in the next few days so you all can make some pretty shorts this summer! I hope to make a few more pairs in floral prints in the days to come. Trust me, if I can do it, anyone can! xx

Lazy Lake Day

Living in one of the most beautiful and serene parts of the world gives us unlimited new places to explore when the sun is shining. Vancouver Island holds some of the purest, freshest rivers and lakes that are the ultimate paradise when the weather heats up. We packed a bag filled with sunscreen, sunnies, thread to make bracelets, books and snacks and set out to find a lake we had never been to. After a few GPS confusions and wrong turns, we arrived at Durrance Lake. It was breathtaking. The water was clear enough to see straight to the bottom and the sun shone directly on the secluded beach we discovered. The only thing that could have made this day more relaxing was an air mattress to float around the lake on... and maybe some 'refreshments'.

It was still a little too chilly for us to swim but we had a lovely day tanning and chatting. Hope the sun was shining wherever you were!

Love,

Fan Tan Alley

With the sun beginning to shine far longer than it used to, we took advantage of the particularly warm evening by searching for lost and hidden gems in the shops of Canada's oldest China Town. You can feel the history in the walls as you make your way down these narrow, dimly lit alley ways. Like any best friends, we enjoy lazy days when nothing particularly exciting happens, but this evening was filled with inside jokes, lovely thrift finds, laughter and exploration.

We found ourselves at one of our favourite little spots in down town Victoria, the Bubble Tea Place. Three years ago we tried bubble tea together for the first time and for decided it wasn't for either of us. We of course decided to give it a second chance and now love, crave and enjoy bubble tea whenever we can!

Taking our delicious tea with their eccentric names (flirtatious raspberry and nipple twister), we headed into Chinatown, one of the most popular streets in Victoria. The street is filled with old Chinese design, street markets, hidden alleyways and wandering people.

Victoria's Chinatown is the oldest Chinatown in Canada and the second oldest in North America, making it that much more interesting to have in our own backyard.

After spending a good amount of time window shopping, thrift shopping, chatting and walking the old brick alleys, we headed home..  or that's where we were supposed to be headed..

Getting sidetracked and making a short pit stop on the side of the road with the sun hitting it just right, we thought it would make for a great photo opportunity.

We want to thank everyone who has visited our site and a special thanks to all the followers. It means a lot to us.
Keep smiling and creating :)

Fair Trade Love

Yesterday I picked up these lovely earrings from Ten Thousand Villages. This shop is unique in the fact that it is a nonprofit Fair Trade Organization. They purchase beautiful merchandise that is handcrafted by artisans in low-income countries for a fair price and sell it in shops all over Canada.

These earrings were made by an artisan in India. I also picked up a handcrafted birthday card made by a child in Kenya and a lovely hand-woven basket by a person in Bangladesh. By purchasing fair trade products, you allow these low-income artisans to be fairly compensated and provide for their families. I encourage you to take a look in this store if you haven't already done so. They sell gorgeous jewelry, housewares and art that you won't find anywhere else.

I look forward to wearing these with many outfits this summer. They will be a nice way to brighten up a white t-shirt. I hope you all have enjoyed your weekend so far!
