Bleach Jean Shorts DIY

Earlier in the week I posted Dip-Dye Virgin, and I told you that I had many other projects that involved dipping, dying and bleaching planned. I thought I would do another pair of blue jeans this time but stick strictly with bleach.

I started with a pair of jeans and cut them into shorts. This time I wanted to try the new cut that has been trending on Pinterest and on various blogs. I cut the sides quite a bit shorter than the front and back.
After I cut the shorts I left them overnight in a sink full of bleach with only 3/4 of the shorts in the sink.

Have a sunny day

Pearl Clutch Makeover DIY

What I love the most about thrift shopping is imagining the stories behind the clothing that lines the racks. Every silk scarf or pair of acid wash jeans has a had a unique and interesting life before landing in your hands. I always wonder who has worn the clothing prior to me and the places they've been while wearing it. I picked up this pearl clutch from Value Village on the weekend and it had definitely seen better days. Although still beautiful, it was stained and an overall 'old' feel exuded from it. I imagined, at one time, a beautiful woman carrying it at an event while wearing a silk dress. After that, it was probably put away in a box until being donated to Value Village.  Now, I'm going to revamp it and give it a new life using my trusty can of fluorescent spray paint:

What You Need:
-A clutch that needs some updating
-Spray Paint
-Masking Tape
-Cardboard

What To Do:
1. Cover any metal clasps with tape
2. Place clutch on cardboard
3. Spray clutch in even strokes from
    left to right
4. Let it dry, flip over and repeat

Try it out this weekend xx

Studded DIY

I love studs! They're such a pretty way to turn any dull piece of clothing into something chic and modern in an instant. I adore the look of studded shoulders or studs around the neckline. I have tiny bags of studs around my house and even find myself studding my shirts while sitting in the car.. It is an obsession (and I just said the word 'stud' 5 times in 4 sentences.. eek). This DIY is very simple and can be applied to almost any article of clothing in your closet! Even some of my boyfriend's clothing that I wear is at risk of being studded. Something tells me he wouldn't appreciate that very much though ;)

What You Need:
-Plain Shirt - I picked up mine from Value Village
-Studs
-Scissors

Cut off the neckline and sleeves, if you wish. Press studs wherever you like. It's that simple! I like the look of the studs being spaced out evenly over the shirt, but pressing them along the neckline would look very cute if you wore your hair up. Enjoy xx

Dip-Dye Virgin Shorts DIY

After looking in numerous clothing stores and on so many blogs I came to the conclusion that the dip dyed trend is here to stay. As summer is just around the corner I thought I would try my hand at dying blue jean shorts. I then let them sit in a bucket of turquoise dye for about a hour but only putting in 3/4 of the shorts.
I washed them out and then re-dipped the bottom 3 inches of the shorts into a sink of bleach. Once the bottom turned a colour I enjoyed I then did the top 1-1/2 inch of the shorts.

I loved that I could start out with a simple pair of jeans and end up with something brand new that no one else will every have.
Although dying and bleaching can be quite messy, it was a ton of fun and I am already planning many more projects for the near future.

Now go dye & bleach <3

Diesel Cardigan

One of the infinite perks of having a boyfriend is all of the oversized, comfy clothing at your fingertips. His closet is filled with the best t-shirts and sweaters that I'm constantly trying to steal without him noticing.  This blue Diesel Cardigan is one I always reach for. The weather has been getting warmer each day so I paired this cardigan with cut-off denim shorts I made last weekend.

Diesel Cardigan
Homemade Jean Shorts (Thrifted)
Talula Tank
Silk Scarf (Thrifted)

I spent the morning wandering around my new neighborhood. We are surrounded by farms that sell fresh eggs on the weekend. I wasn't carrying any money but look forward to picking up some next weekend.

Fair Trade Love

Yesterday I picked up these lovely earrings from Ten Thousand Villages. This shop is unique in the fact that it is a nonprofit Fair Trade Organization. They purchase beautiful merchandise that is handcrafted by artisans in low-income countries for a fair price and sell it in shops all over Canada.

These earrings were made by an artisan in India. I also picked up a handcrafted birthday card made by a child in Kenya and a lovely hand-woven basket by a person in Bangladesh. By purchasing fair trade products, you allow these low-income artisans to be fairly compensated and provide for their families. I encourage you to take a look in this store if you haven't already done so. They sell gorgeous jewelry, housewares and art that you won't find anywhere else.

I look forward to wearing these with many outfits this summer. They will be a nice way to brighten up a white t-shirt. I hope you all have enjoyed your weekend so far!

White Denim

I was wandering around the mall when a gorgeous pair of white denim Levi shorts caught my eye in the Club Monaco window display. Naturally, I went in to have a look. Not letting myself succumb to the $80 price tag, I opted to make a pair of my own. This has to be the easiest DIY and is perfect for summer. Thrift stores are overflowing with once-loved, high waisted jeans begging to be cut up and worn again. So, breathe some life into an old pair of jeans and get your wardrobe summer ready x

Black&Glitter

Spring is here and everyone knows what that means...spring cleaning. I personally love when the weather changes and I get to go bring out all my spring and summer clothes.

When I was cleaning out my wardrobe, I came across a pair of grey suade high heels that I have been meaning to do something with. They were compeletly wrecked from the combination of wearing them in the winter rain, spilt drinks and dirty bar floors. I tried many things to get the stains out, but still couldn't get rid of the dark marks, so I decided I would perform a little DIY loving care.

What you need to re-do a pair of heels:
Spray paint (I used Krylon - Black satin)
Tape (Painters tape or masking tape)
Mod  Podge
Glitter
Sponge brush

First step is to tape the bottom & inside of the shoes.
I also put paper towel inside the shoe just to make sure no black paint will get onto the sole of the shoe.
After the shoes are taped its time to spray the shoes. Set aside and let them dry. Once they are dry its time for another coat. I ended up doing three coats but if you are happy after one or two coats that's fine as well. When your last coat is drying, get a small bowl and mix together the mod podge and glitter.

Re-tape your shoes but this time around the outside of the heel and the bottom to make sure that the glitter mod podge doesn't get on the newly sprayed shoe. Use your sponge brush and paint the glitter onto the bottom of the shoe and onto the heel. Let dry, remove the tape and enjoy your sparkly re-vamped shoes :)
